The Cayman Islands are often said to have some of the best beaches, snorkeling, and scuba diving in the world. The clarity of the water, the soft white sand, the shallow coral reefs, and abundant marine life, the wrecks and The Wall – the famous vertical drop that descends to the floor of the Cayman Trench, as deep as a Himalayan mountain is high, just yards from shore.
From the safety and security of the Atlantis Submarine, one of the most popular things to do in Grand Cayman, the stunning underwater vistas of the Cayman Islands are available to just about everybody – whether they're an underwater novice or expert, a multi-generational family looking for an experience they can all enjoy together, or simply those who want to satisfy a curiosity about life beneath the waves but have an aversion to getting their feet wet.
Up to six times a day and two evenings a week the 65-foot Atlantis submarine carries 48 passengers up to 100 feet below the surface for a 45-minute exploration of the reefs, the wrecks and the marine life that lives there. During a submarine day dive in the Cayman Islands guests can expect to see colorful snapper and large groupers, stingrays and even turtles passing within a few feet of the large viewports.
Twice a week, evening tours depart just after sundown from Atlantis Submarine’s George Town base and are an exciting way to explore the deep at night – safe and dry in air-conditioned comfort. A short ferry ride takes passengers to the submarine at the dive site. Once everyone is seated on board the hatches are closed and the submarine begins its descent for a spectacular night dive in the Cayman Islands.
The submarine's bright floodlights provide breathtaking views of the reef. Attracted by the bright lights, nocturnal marine life such as moray eels, octopus, tarpons and nurse sharks come out to hunt, providing a unique peek into the behavior of the reefs after dark from the comfort of this unique Cayman Islands submarine.
The entire evening tour lasts just 90 minutes, including the dive and transport to and from the submarine, allowing visitors plenty of time to explore and sample the huge array of Caribbean dinner options onshore before or after the tour.
On Thursday afternoons, Atlantis Submarines Cayman offers a tour directly from Seven Mile Beach, taking guests on an additional cruise along the world-famous sand before boarding the submarine moored offshore above the dive site. After the tour, visitors are taken back to Seven Mile Beach to continue their Cayman Islands vacation.
Atlantis Submarine tours are among the most popular activities in the Cayman Islands, so bookings are strongly recommended. Guest who book online at caymanislandssubmarines.com enjoy a discount.
While Atlantis Submarine tours can accommodate just about every guest, children must be at least four years old, and three feet tall to participate in the tours.
